The library was always one of my favourite places to spend time when I was a kid. I took for granted that I lived only a few blocks away from (what seemed like) endless Nancy Drew and space exploration type books and that they were always available to educate and stimulate my growth.

The Coquitlam Public Library recognized that this isn't the case for all young people and so they developed the Book Bus which travels to local parks and communities with books for kids to read - a truly brilliant idea. So naturally, when MOSAIC caught wind that the Coquitlam Public Library’s Book Bus was in need of a design pick-me-up, we decided to take on the task of revamping the popular mobile library.

It wasn't in the best shape when we first approached this project. The renovations took a total of 6 six weeks to execute and we had a great time while doing so.

We’ve repaired and replaced the sky lights on top of the bus, removed all of the old carpeting to make room for new carpeting, fixed the heater, and also installed an awning on the side. The result? Well see for yourself. :)

It's very rewarding to see the final result and know that it will serve the purpose of keeping people in touch with books. In fact, it made us giddy to receive a letter from Rhian Pipreli, the director of the Coquitlam Public Library, expressing her appreciation and highlighted the difference that the revamped Book Bus had made already at their ‘Light the Lake’ event.

Our proud book-mobile brought out over 150 people to the event with many borrowing out books and DVDs while others joined the library for the first time.
We hope that the Book Bus can continue to serve our community and we'll be following up to make sure that it stays in tip-top shape while doing so.
